Cape of Storms.

For most of my life, I've lived in a coastal city near the beach. There's just something about the ocean that makes me never want to leave it. For the most part, it's absolutely awesome. Sunny days surfing amongst the waves will always be some of the happiest memories that I'll ever have.

On the odd occasion though, nature decides to go a little crazy to give us a reminder of who's really in charge. That's when living near the coast becomes slightly more tense. Which is exactly what happened recently. Cue one of the biggest and most destructive storms I have ever experienced.

While most people took cover inside from the gale force winds, rain and relentless waves, I decided to venture out and get a few pics. It's not often that one gets to shoot in extreme conditions like this.

It was quite a struggle to drive to the beach, as most of the roads closer to the ocean were either flooded or blocked off by traffic officials for safety reasons. I eventually managed to sneak in undetected and finally got to where the action was. Amidst the chaos and destruction, there was something quite beautiful about it all. Witnessing the sheer force and unpredictability of it all. I shot as many images as I could before the next wave of torrential rain hit and I had to retreat to the safety of my car in order to protect my gear.

Will I do this again when the next storm hits?

Most definitely. Will this deter me from living near the ocean? Never!
