Project: Personal.

Something I love about working in the photographic industry is that you can never predict the consequences of what you create.

A great example is how photographer Brandon Stanton went about creating the Humans of New York. If you haven't heard of this or how it came into existence then I suggest you look into it right away. It's truly inspirational.

Another recent example is from photographer Mike Kelley who shot an amazing collection of images entitled AIRPORTRAITS: Chasing planes around the world which has really taken off (pun intended).

So what do these guys have in common and where am I going with this do I hear you ask? Well you see, both photographers started this merely as a personal project, with no real expectations. They were just putting in the effort and doing what they love. And look where it has landed (pun once again intended) them.

Personal projects can be extremely rewarding. Even if you don't reach the fame or exposure that these guys did, you will still receive the satisfaction of creating something that is uniquely yours and will most likely improve your craft by learning a thing or two along the way. It's a win-win.

My advice is to start creating today. Anything. It doesn't have to be amazing. It just has to be something. And if you can't think of anything, just wing it (ok, I'll stop now)...
